José Mourinho’s second coming at Real Madrid is about to get real. The Portuguese boss wrapped up his first day at Valdebebas on Friday, and he’s already talking like a man on a mission. And guess what? His first game back will be against Fiorentina in Klagenfurt, Austria, on Aug. 1. Gotta love a dramatic homecoming.

“I have great confidence and a strong feeling that I love this club,” Mourinho, 63, told Real Madrid TV. “Words are not enough because this feels like a mission.” You can almost hear the intensity in his voice. After two years without a trophy—first under Carlo Ancelotti, then Xabi Alonso and Álvaro Arbeloa—Madrid needs a jolt. Who better than The Special One to bring the thunder?
“It’s not about worrying about myself or whether I’ll win a lot or a little,” he said. “I’m here to help everyone become better: players, staff… Creating a culture of work, responsibility, ambition, and something I know well—responsibility and the honor of working for Real Madrid.” He’s already talking about working *for* the club, not just *at* it. That’s the kind of passion that gets fans buzzing.
Madrid have been busy this summer, snagging Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konaté, and Denzel Dumfries. Mourinho isn’t starting from scratch. “It’s not like I arrived here today and everything starts now. We’ve been working hard for a long time with the club’s structure at different levels. Today has basically been about arriving and ‘checking’ everything that has been done and what we still need to do.”
The last time Mourinho roamed the Bernabéu touchline, he won LaLiga, the Copa del Rey, and a Supercopa, plus three straight Champions League semis. Since then, he’s bounced around Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham, Roma, Fenerbahçe, and Benfica. Now he’s back, and the pressure is on. But he thrives on that.
Preseason kicks off Monday, with the Fiorentina friendly on Aug. 1. Then there’s the Teresa Herrera Trophy against newly promoted Deportivo La Coruña on Aug. 12. Mourinho’s mission starts now. Buckle up, Madridistas.
