Ipswich Town have completed the signing of Brazilian striker Emersonn from Ligue 1 side Toulouse, the Premier League newcomers announced on Wednesday.
The 21-year-old arrives at Portman Road for an undisclosed fee, reported to be around £26.5 million ($35.5m), and has penned a five-year contract. The deal makes Emersonn one of the most expensive signings in the club’s history.
New Ipswich boss Gary O’Neil, who replaced Kieran McKenna last month, expressed his delight at securing the services of the Brazil youth international. “He is a young striker with real ability and potential who has had plenty of interest this summer, so for him to choose Ipswich Town is something we are very proud of,” O’Neil told the club’s official website. “I know he is excited to be playing in the Premier League and we’re looking forward to having him with us as we prepare for the new season.”
Emersonn will join up with his new teammates for pre-season training once his work visa is approved. The striker, who came through Toulouse’s academy, is eager to make his mark in English football. “Playing in the Premier League is something I have always dreamed of and I know I have picked the perfect club to do that with,” he said. “I will give everything for the team every time I play and I can’t wait to get started and meet my new teammates as well as the supporters.”
Ipswich are set to kick off their Premier League campaign on August 22nd with a home fixture against Sunderland, and Emersonn could be in line to make his debut.
